Big John at Breakfast and the leaders of the four South Yorkshire Authorities - Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, have now launched the South Yorkshire Flood Victim Support Appeal with Hallam FM.

Together with the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, the appeal aims to raise money to directly support thousands of people displaced by the severe flooding that hit South Yorkshire this week. We want as many people as possible to support our campaign so we can help the thousands of people whose lives have been devastated by this flood, many of whom have no way of replacing their essential belongings. If you, or the company you work for, would like to donate to the fund, and maybe even speak on-air to our presenters, please call the phone number below.

OVER £515,000 RAISED SO FAR

Big John, the host of Hallam FM's breakfast show, commented: "Since Monday we've not only been providing vital information to help our listeners cope with road closures, school closures and evacuations, but have also been blown away by heart-felt messages from the public and local businesses. So many people have already pledged to help out in any way they can - and we're now proud to present the best opportunity."

In a joint statement, Barnsley's Cllr Steve Houghton, Mayor of Doncaster Martin Winter, Rotherham's Cllr Roger Stone and Cllr Jan Wilson of Sheffield added: "Thousands of our residents across South Yorkshire have suffered the upset, and in some cases, the tragedy of severe flooding. We hope that people from South Yorkshire and beyond realise the financial and emotional pain that many victims are enduring and find a way to help.

The initial distribution of £100 per property affected has begun, with cheques now going out in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. This payment is for all properties flooded in their habitable areas, and doesn't discriminate against those who are insured, as it is to cover distress and hardship, which has been universal.
